Weekend Links

In which I share my favorite posts from this blog's Facebook page.

* The ex-president of Trader Joe's is opening a grocery store that sells "aging" food. If the prices were right, I'd love something like that in my area!

* Egg rationing comes to the U.S.A.

* I'm all for foraging, but we never eat anything we haven't identified with 100% certainty. Mushrooms, in particular, can be deadly. Educate yourself well, and don't rely only on an app or even one book.

* Did you know that bug-eaten veggies have more cancer-fightning properties? So there's another good reason not to hit our food with pesticides.

* Similac formula will now be available in a GMO-free version. It's about time!

* Could you be letting your kids walk all over you and not even realize it?

* Why your child's obedience is so important.

* Drowning doesn't look like what they show on t.v. Make sure you know what drowning really looks like; you could save lives.

* We love Brussels sprouts. (If you don't, I recommend you grow them yourself - so much better than store bought - or buy sprouts that are smaller.) At any rate, here is a Brussels sprout recipe I can't imagine anyone not loving.

* Not sure you know what you're going to do with all the veggies you're growing? Not sure what to do with veggies you find at the farmer's market? Trying to add more veggies to your diet? My cookbook, "A Vegetable for Every Season" is now fully revised and updated, with 27 new recipes (182 recipes total). And its only $2.99! (Don't have a Kindle? You can read this book on your computer or other device.)

  1. Kristina, thank you for sharing these links. I never knew what someone looked like when they are drowning until now. All of my kids have fallen into pools and were drowning but thanks be to God I was right there and jumped in and pulled them out. Never thought to laugh at them or see them fend for themselves. I knew, at the time, they couldn't swim, so I just jumped in and rescued them. After reading the article and watching the movie, I realized they were REALLY drowning. Today, they all know how to swim and do it with supervision at all times. God's been faithful to keep angels keeping guard of them. It's pretty scary! It's really how the article says: they make no noise, no splashing, just sink vertically down. Thanks to God, I was in getting them out in less than 10 seconds. Every time, they were holding their breaths. They didn't get traumatized at all. Thank you, Jesus!
