Scripture Cake

This is an old recipe dating back to at least the 19th century. It's a fun cooking project to do with the kids, especially if they are old enough to look up the scriptures themselves. The recipe works best with the King James version of the Bible. If you don't have a copy, use the links below to read the scriptures.

What You Need: 1 cup Psalms 55:21 (2 sticks butter) 1 cup Jeremiah 6:20 (sugar) 3 Jeremiah 17:11 (eggs) 1 tablespoon 1 Samuel 14:25 (honey) 1/2 cups Exodus 23:19 (milk) 2 1/4 cups Genesis 18:6 (flour) 1 tablespoon Amos 4:5 (leavening - i.e., baking powder) 2 teaspoons II Chronicles 9:9 (spices: 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon nutmeg) a pinch of Leviticus 2:13 (salt) 1 1/2 cups Song of Solomon 2:5 (raisins) 1 cup chopped Isaiah 38:21 (figs) 1/2 cup Numbers 17:8 (chopped almonds) Loaf pan Mixing bowl How to Do It: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour a loaf pan. 2. In a large bowl, cream the Psalms 55:21 until light, beating in the Jeremiah 6:20 a tablespoon at a time, until fluffy. 3. Add the Jeremiah 17:11, one at a time, following King Solomon's advice in Proverbs 23:14 (beat well). Stir in the 1 Samuel 14:23 and Exodus 23:19. 4. Add the remaining ingredients gradually (in the order given), until well mixed. Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 50 minutes. Bookmark and <br>Share

  1. This is a neat idea. I'll have to pull out my Bible to look up the ingredients! :)
